The quickest way: in OurCents, go to Settings → Contact support. When asked, choose “Include” to add diagnostic info: the app version, your phone model and what the app did recently (screens, syncs, errors). It never contains your amounts, notes or names, you see all of it in the email before you send it, and it helps us find and fix the problem much faster. We usually reply within two working days.
Can’t open the app? Email smartin.appsupport@gmail.com and mention your phone model and whether you use iPhone or Android.
Because OurCents keeps your data on your phone, we can’t see your transactions. Never send us backups or screenshots with personal details. We will never ask for your passwords, bank or card details or any other personal data, and we never contact you first. A message claiming to be from OurCents that asks for such things isn’t from us.
Sharing with your partner
Can I use OurCents on my own?
Yes. Everything works on one phone, and syncing is optional: set it up whenever you like, or turn it off in Settings → Partner sync.
How do I set up sync with my partner?
You only do this once. Both of you need OurCents installed.
- On one phone, tap “Set up” on the Overview’s “Share with your partner” card (or Settings → Partner sync → “Set up partner sync”) and enter your name. Your partner sees it next to the entries you add.
- Tap “Send to partner”. On iPhone, choose your partner’s iPhone in AirDrop. On Android, send it with Quick Share, WhatsApp, Mail or any other app.
- Your partner opens the file and OurCents syncs by itself. On Android with Quick Share, tap “View downloads”, then the file (Quick Share’s own “Open” button tries Google Photos, which can’t open it). If Android asks which app to use, choose OurCents → “Just once”.
- Your partner taps “Send mine to …” and sends their file back the same way, so you get their entries too.
That’s it: your phones are now paired, and both have the same transactions.
How do we sync after that?
Tap “Sync” on the Overview whenever you like, for example once a day or at the end of the week. The line above it shows when you last synced (“Synced with Ana · Today, 18:30”).
With Quick sync (on by default, Settings → Partner sync) and OurCents open on both phones, one tap updates both, with nothing to send or accept:
- On the same Wi-Fi: any two phones, iPhone or Android – also an iPhone with an Android phone.
- Two iPhones close to each other: also without Wi-Fi.
If your partner’s phone isn’t found within a few seconds (OurCents closed, another network, a guest Wi-Fi that keeps devices apart), Sync simply sends a file like the first time.
Does sync work between an iPhone and an Android phone?
Yes. On the same Wi-Fi, with OurCents open on both, one tap syncs them directly, the same as between two iPhones or two Android phones. Not on the same Wi-Fi? Send the file with WhatsApp, Mail or any app you both use.
Quick sync doesn’t find my partner’s phone
Sync then sends a file instead, so nothing is lost. For Quick sync to find the other phone, check:
- OurCents is open on both phones, on the screen, not just running in the background.
- Quick sync is on on both: Settings → Partner sync → “Quick sync”.
- Both phones are on the same Wi-Fi. Guest networks and some office or public Wi-Fi keep devices apart; then send a file instead.
- iPhone: local network access is allowed. OurCents asks the first time; if you said no, turn on OurCents in the iPhone’s Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network.
- Two iPhones without Wi-Fi: keep them close, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on in Control Center.
- The phones are paired. The very first sync is always done with a file.
What is shared, and what stays on each phone?
Shared: transactions, categories, budgets, accounts and recurring transactions. Each phone keeps its own currency, reminders, app lock, appearance and Pro.
After the first sync, every entry remembers who added it: you see your partner’s name on their entries, “Who spent what” in Statistics, and an “Added by” filter in Search.
Can we use different currencies?
It’s best to use the same one on both phones. OurCents doesn’t convert amounts: an entry is saved as a number, and each phone shows it in its own currency (Settings → General → Currency). So 50 entered on a phone set to EUR shows as RON 50.00 on a phone set to RON. After a sync with a file, OurCents tells you when your currencies differ.
Changing the currency doesn’t convert existing amounts either, so choose it once, when you start.
Already synced with different currencies? Switch one phone to the other’s currency. Amounts already entered keep their numbers, so edit the entries made in the other currency to the right amount.
What happens if we both changed the same expense?
OurCents merges both phones: new entries from either side are added, deletions carry over, and if the same entry was changed on both phones, the most recent change is kept. If something looks wrong after a sync, open Settings → Partner sync and tap “Undo last sync” below the card.
Can we undo a sync?
Yes. Open Settings → Partner sync and tap “Undo last sync” below the card. Your data goes back to how it was right before that sync; anything you added or changed since then is undone too.
- Up to 5 syncs in a row: before every sync (by file, on the same Wi-Fi or nearby, even when nothing changed) OurCents keeps a copy of your data on your phone, for the last 5 syncs. Each undo goes back one sync. When you undo the oldest one, OurCents tells you that earlier syncs can’t be undone.
- Only your phone changes. Your partner’s phone keeps the synced data, and the next sync brings it back. To go back on both phones, undo on both before syncing again.
- Undoing the very first sync also unpairs the two phones.
- Need to go further back? Restore a backup: Settings → Backup → “Restore from backup”.
The file doesn’t open in OurCents
- “Unsupported file type” (Android, Quick Share): tap “View downloads”, then the file, instead of “Open”.
- Android asks which app to use: choose OurCents → “Just once”.
- Nothing happens, or the app can’t read it (some email apps): save the file to your phone, then in OurCents go to Settings → Partner sync → “Set up partner sync” (or “Partner sync with …”) → “Open a received file” and pick it.
- “This is your own file”: you opened the file you sent. Open the one your partner sent you.
Sync shows “Partner” instead of my partner’s name
Entries are labelled by the phone that added them. “Partner” means a phone OurCents doesn’t know by name, for example after your partner reinstalled OurCents or used another phone. Ask your partner to set their name (Settings → Partner sync → “Partner sync with …”) and sync again; entries added from then on carry their name.
Do we both need Pro?
Usually not. Partner sync is free for everyone, and one Pro is enough for most couples: the budgets and recurring transactions the Pro partner sets up sync to both phones, so you both see them. The second phone only needs Pro for its own statistics beyond the month, Excel reports and accounts.
Pro is bought per store account: per Apple ID on iPhone, per Google account on Android.
Pro and purchases
How do I get Pro back on a new phone or after reinstalling?
Open the Pro screen (Settings → the Pro card) and tap “Restore purchase”, signed in with the same Apple ID or Google account you bought it with.
Is there a launch price?
Yes: until 31 March 2027, Pro costs €7.99 in most euro countries (other countries have their own local price). From 1 April 2027 it costs €9.99. It stays a one-time purchase, and Pro you have already bought isn’t affected.
Can I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple and Google, so refunds are requested from them: on iPhone at reportaproblem.apple.com, on Android through Google Play’s order history.
Budgets and recurring transactions
How do budgets and budget alerts work?
Open the Budgets tab and tap a category to set its monthly budget. The bar shows how much of it is spent, counting the expenses from both phones if you sync with your partner. The free version has up to 3 budgets; Pro has unlimited budgets.
Budget alerts are on by default: when an expense brings a category to your alert level, you get a heads-up, and when it goes over its budget, a red alert. Turn them off or choose the level (50–90%) in Settings → Reminders & alerts → “Budget alerts”. Budgets are shared with your partner; the alert settings are per phone.
While a category stays over its budget, every further expense in it shows the alert again. Tap “Mute for …” on the alert to silence it for that category until the month ends; to turn it back on, tap the category on the Budgets tab and choose “Turn back on”.
How do recurring transactions work?
For rent, subscriptions or a salary (Pro): when you add the transaction, choose Repeat → Weekly, Monthly or Yearly. OurCents adds each one on its day when you open the app; if you haven’t opened it for a while, the missed ones are added at once, with the right dates.
Settings → Recurring transactions lists them: tap one to change it, pause it or delete it. With partner sync, both phones know the same recurring transactions, and each one is added only once.
Reminders
How do I set up the reminder?
Settings → Reminders & alerts: turn on Reminder, choose every day or once a week, and pick a time – one of the usual ones, or “Other…” for any time you like. Tapping the reminder opens a new expense.
The reminder doesn’t come, or comes late (Android)
Many Android phones hold back reminders to save battery. OurCents asks about this when you turn the reminder on, and Settings → Reminders & alerts shows a tip with a link to OurCents’ app settings while it’s needed. In your phone’s Settings → Apps → OurCents:
- App battery usage: choose “Unrestricted” (on some phones “No restrictions”). On some phones “Allow background usage” alone isn’t enough.
- Alarms & reminders: allow OurCents, so the reminder comes on the minute instead of up to an hour later. This one isn’t on OurCents’ own page: it’s in Settings → Apps → Special app access → Alarms & reminders. OurCents asks for it when you turn the reminder on.
- Notifications: make sure notifications and the “Reminders” category are on.
- Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, OnePlus, vivo and similar phones: also turn on Autostart for OurCents, if your phone has it.
If OurCents was closed by the phone, opening it once sets the reminder again.
The reminder doesn’t come (iPhone)
Check Settings → Notifications → OurCents, and whether a Focus mode was on at that time.
Your data
How do I move my data to a new phone?
Usually you don’t have to do anything. OurCents keeps its data on your phone, and it is part of your phone’s own backup: on iPhone in iCloud Backup or when you move to a new iPhone with Quick Start; on Android in Google backup, if it is turned on. Set up the new phone from that backup and OurCents opens with everything in place.
Moving between iPhone and Android, or not using phone backups? On the old phone, go to Settings → Backup → “Create backup” and save the file (for example to iCloud Drive, Google Drive or email). On the new phone, use Settings → Backup → “Restore from backup”.
Can you recover my data if I lose my phone?
No. OurCents has no server, so we never have a copy of your data. Make a backup regularly, or sync with your partner: their phone then has a copy of your shared data too.
How do I delete all my data?
Settings → Data → “Erase all data”, or uninstall the app. OurCents keeps nothing on any server. Your phone’s own backup (Google or iCloud) may still contain an older copy until it is next updated, and reinstalling OurCents can bring that copy back. Backup files, exports and sync files you saved or sent yourself stay where you put them.
Voice and app lock
Voice entry doesn’t understand me
Say the amount first, then the category, then a note, for example “45 groceries supermarket”. Check that OurCents may use the microphone and speech recognition in your phone’s Settings.
You don’t always have to say the category’s name: everyday words like “bakery”, “rent” or “haircut” work too, and OurCents remembers the notes you’ve used, so “45 Kaufland” finds the category you saved Kaufland under before. If it isn’t sure, it lets you pick.
I can’t unlock the app
The app lock uses your phone’s Face ID, fingerprint or passcode. If biometrics fail, use your phone’s passcode. The lock can be turned off in Settings → Security.
Something isn’t working. How do I report it?
In OurCents, go to Settings → Contact support. You can choose to include diagnostic info: the app version, your phone model and what the app did recently (screens, syncs, errors), never your amounts, notes or names. You see it in the email before you send it, and it helps us find the problem much faster.
